When Jennifer told me that their family mini session was scheduled smack into their vow renewal I couldn't help but tag along for that as well. Love is magical, and it's one of my favorite things in the world, like way up there with a cold Mountain Dew and the way the ocean smells on your skin. Because of that, engagement and wedding sessions hold a special place in my heart but I think that vow renewals just gave them both a run for their money.
I mean marriage is cool and all and it takes a lot of love and a sprinkle of insanity to agree to spend the rest of your life with someone but what's really really cool is when two people love each other so much that they want to do it again. Want to put some icing on the cake? Add a few babies that have popped up in the in-between time and you're sure in for a good time.
The whole McGuire family is beautiful, but the littlest takes the cake.
Little model babies are golden. They look so perfect with such minimal effort.
Now don't let these gorgeous moments fool you, there were quite a few tears but a few tosses into the air and some dinos later and we had some happy little tots again. One thing that I always try and remind parents when we do sessions with small kids is that whether we like it or not, they're running the show and it's easiest just to go with the flow and have fun with it.
That's why our T-Rex friend graces us with his presence in so many pictures, Hugh wouldn't have it any other way.
Yes, you're right, the picture would look a lot better without the toy, I agree with you. BUT, would it be as honest? Not at all. Let them have fun too. If the kids are miserable all of us are going to be miserable and we won't get any shots.
So take a breath, relax, and run toward the camera.
